Century Farms

Fiber Division

We specialized in rare genetics fiber animals...

and sold breeding stock as well as fiber by the pound/or fleece.

We are now totally out of the angora goat and merino sheep business, but still have quantities of rare wonderful fiber for sale, as well as some outfits.  We had registered white angora goats, chocolate, taupe and moorit (grey roots to brown tips) colored angora goats, and their mohair fiber...they produced 6 inches twice a year of Shirley Temple- type ringlets that is highly lustrous, durable, and fire resistant.  A handful of mohair blended into your wool creates a shiny luster and adds great strength.  We were once told that a small amount of mohair is what turns a $500 mans' suit into a $4000 mans' suit.  The durability and fire retarding qualities are what made mohair the fabric of choice for airplane upholstery and early cars....the softness of kid (baby) mohair is why fine baby blankets and scarves that go next to your face are made of it.

We also offered equally rare genetics merino sheep...

they came in white, black-to-chocolate, and taupe...and their wool got usually 4 1/2 inches/year (rather than the usual 2.5"-3")and was quite fine.  We recommended a 70% merino to 30% mohair blend for most garments.  The merino is the finest fiber of "sheepdom", and is the most recommended wool for softness, most crimp per inch (for memory of garment shape), with spinning counts in the 60's-80's; it's the only wool fine enough to make gossamer thin fabrics with the ability to drape.

I also offer a women's designer outfit to stores made solely of our rare fibers...raised in and made entirely in the United States.  Processing is done in small quality shops in America's Heartland... the outfit is all natural; no mordants or dyes!  We have a small number of sweater-skirt outfits left, if interested.
